In the far north, the landscapes are covered in snow and the nights are long enough for spectacular Northern Lights displays. At the same time, destinations such as Sri Lanka and Dubai offer sunshine and pleasant temperatures.

January is a particularly good month to combine very different types of travel. You can chase the Northern Lights in Norway, spend a few days skiing around Innsbruck or head south for warm beaches in Sri Lanka. If you prefer sunshine without a long list of activities, Dubai is an easy choice.
