What is there to discover in Novi Sad?

Petrovaradin Fortress

Petrovaradin Fortress is one of the most famous landmarks in Novi Sad and is sometimes referred to as the “Gibraltar of the Danube”. Built on a hill overlooking the river, the fortress offers fantastic views across Novi Sad and the surrounding area.

Beyond the views, the fortress is a fascinating place to explore, with its historic defensive walls, underground tunnels, old barracks and impressive fortifications. It is also home to museums, galleries and several cafés and restaurants.

Liberty Square (Trg Slobode)

Liberty Square is the central square of Novi Sad and one of the best places to experience the city’s atmosphere. The square is surrounded by some of Novi Sad’s most impressive historic buildings, including the City Hall and the Church of the Name of Mary. Events, markets and festivals are regularly held here, while the surrounding cafés and restaurants make it a popular meeting point throughout the day. From here, you can also easily explore the pedestrian streets of the old town.

Danube Park (Dunavski Park)

Danube Park is a peaceful green oasis right in the centre of Novi Sad. It is a popular place for locals to take a walk, relax or enjoy a picnic.

At the heart of the park is a small lake surrounded by trees, flowers and walking paths. You will also find several statues and monuments throughout the park. It is a great place to take a break while exploring the city centre.

Štrand Beach

During the warmer months, Štrand is one of the most popular places to relax in Novi Sad. Located along the Danube, this large riverside beach attracts both locals and visitors looking to enjoy the summer.

There are plenty of places to sit, swim and relax, as well as cafés, bars and food stalls nearby. On a hot summer day, Štrand is a great way to combine sightseeing with some time by the river.

Church of the Name of Mary

The Church of the Name of Mary is one of the most recognisable buildings in Novi Sad. Located directly on Liberty Square, the impressive church was built in a Neo-Gothic style and is particularly striking because of its tall tower.

The interior is also worth seeing, with its detailed decoration, stained-glass windows and religious artwork. Its prominent position makes it an easy stop when exploring the historic centre.

EXIT Festival

Novi Sad is home to EXIT Festival, one of Europe’s best-known music festivals. The festival takes place every summer at Petrovaradin Fortress and attracts visitors from Serbia and around the world.

With international and local artists performing across numerous stages and a wide range of musical styles, EXIT transforms the historic fortress into a huge festival venue. If you are visiting Novi Sad during the festival, it is certainly one of the city’s most memorable experiences.

Museum of Vojvodina

If you want to learn more about the history and culture of the region, the Museum of Vojvodina is well worth a visit. Its extensive collection covers the history, traditions and cultural development of Vojvodina.

The museum features archaeological discoveries, historical objects, traditional artefacts and works of art. It provides a good introduction to the diverse history of the region and the different cultures that have shaped Vojvodina over the centuries.

Day Trip to Sremski Karlovci

For a short trip outside Novi Sad, Sremski Karlovci is an excellent choice. The small historic town lies just a short drive from Novi Sad and is known for its elegant architecture, historic buildings and wine tradition.

Its compact centre is easy to explore on foot, making it a pleasant destination for a few hours or a relaxed day trip. Combined with a visit to the nearby Fruška Gora National Park, it can also be a great addition to a Novi Sad itinerary.
